Who We Are

SAS Dec 2021-22

Preparing your children for this world and the world to come.

The SAS Vision

At Sawgrass Adventist School, we are a family. Our staff works together in unity and love, truly caring for each student and helping them grow in faith, character, and learning.

History

Fort Lauderdale Adventist School was launched in the early 1930s by the Fort Lauderdale Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its first teacher was Mrs Ivy Stranahan who was the founder of Adventist Education in Broward County, Florida and the wife of Frank Stranahan, founder, City of Ft Lauderdale.

The school was located on the Stranahan's property. In 1973 their residence was named to the National Registrer of Historic Places. Mrs Stranahan sponsored three Seminole Indian children to our school. Over the years our school changed its name and location several times, from in the 1930s to 1977, when our campus was relocated to its current location (11701 NW 4th St, Plantation, Fl  33325).

In the 1970s, the Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church  became an official constituent.  During the 1990's school's name was changed to Sawgrass Adventist School (or SAS)

Thus our school, established over 85 years ago, has shared its history with the establishment of Broward County and has been providing Seventh-day Adventist Christian education to the families of the community.

Philosophy of Faith

The philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist Christian education views education as a means of restoring human beings to their original relationship with God. Believing the redemptive aim of true education to be the restoration of human beings into the image of their creator, SAS, in cooperation with the church and the home, strives to prepare each learner for responsible citizenship in this world to come.

True education imparts more than academic knowledge. It fosters the balanced development of the whole person—spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially. Its time dimension links us to eternity.

True Christian Education seeks to:

  • Develop a life of faith in God and respect for the dignity of all human beings
  • Build a character that reflects the character of the creator.
  • Nurture thinkers rather than mere reflectors of others’ thoughts
  • Promote loving service rather than selfish ambition
  • Ensure maximum development with each individual's potential
  • Embrace all that is true, noble, and beautiful

ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT PLEDGE

Sawgrass Adventist School is a place where students are given every opportunity to grow. We are looking for students who want to engage with us in the journey, and who are excited to be in our school. We want each child to do his/her best while accepting the help the teacher offers. We have a high standard of behavior as outlined in this handbook, and we want parents/guardians to sign an Enrollment Pledge form indicating their support of these expectations.

SAS, a Seventh-day Adventist school, is open to young people who are emotionally ready to enroll for the purpose of doing earnest, faithful work, and who have a desire to develop a Christian character and a personal walk with God. A minimum of two SAS staff or board members may interview each new prospective child before students in grades 3-8 proceed with registration.

SAS partners with parents or legal guardians of students in the education of their children. In doing so, SAS requires family members to support our educational program, participate in various school activities and encourages the parents or guardians to uphold Christian principles in the home.
